This is an investigation into the world of editorial illustration. Focusing on how editorial illustrators work under pressure. This blog investigates how time constraints inform decision making, style and visual communication.
Time constraints force the illustrator to make quick confident decisions. Often, illustrators are chosen based on their own style. It is important that they remain true to this and keep their work cohesive.
My own timed-drawing workshops allowed me to explore ideas faster and I became more experimental and less perfectionistic. This changed my approach to design and I insured I was more conceptually focused.
Overall, working under pressure is not just a constraint, but the main element of editorial illustration. It shapes the illustrators style and final out come.
